Workplace Assault

Workplace assault towards women can take many different paths. In some cases, women are sexually assaulted at work by a supervisor. Or by a doctor you work with. Or by a customer who comes into your workplace. Or maybe by a colleague at a work conference. All of these are illegal! Assault is always illegal. In some cases - often in fast food restaurants - minors are assaulted and do not even realize it. This happens when young women are groomed and then assaulted by older male colleagues or supervisors. The impact of assault at work is tremendous. You no longer feel safe. You likely are suffering from some backlash from the assault. Maybe you need your job to support yourself - at the very least you are trying to build or maintain a career. And you are supposed to go to work and feel safe and be able to trust the people around you - at least trust that they will not assault you.

You might wonder if you have been assaulted - if your colleague puts his hands on your waist, have you been assaulted? If your supervisor puts his hand on your lower back, have you been assaulted? And what can you do about it? In Minnesota, the law prohibits your employer from terminating you (retaliating against you) for reporting illegal activity. Workplace assault is illegal and if you report it you are not supposed to be terminated. If you are terminated, you likely have a case for wrongful termination under the Minnesota Whistleblower Act. Workplace assault attorneys can help you navigate this.
